CART Ribbon Cutting

Cindy's Portrait Dear Friends,

Last week, I joined CART director, Doug Myers and city leaders to cut the ribbon on a new CNG bus for the Cleveland Area Rapid Transit (CART) fleet. This new 35-foot bus joins 9 other clean-burning CNG vehicles currently in use.

This event is part of our overall efforts to make Norman a greener and more energy efficient city.

Our city employees and leadership are making significant strides to make the quality of life in Norman even better.

  • We are building LEED-certified fire stations and making other buildings more efficient.
  • We are working to make Norman a more bicycle-friendly community.
  • We are constructing a CNG fueling location that will serve city vehicles and also be open to the public.
  • We are leading aggressive recycling efforts at the curbside and at special events.
Through our Alternative Fuel Program, we have been replacing fleet vehicles with clean-burning CNG which will reduce air pollution, run more quietly, and save the city money on fuel costs.

We also conduct an energetic public education effort which has produced the best water conservation effort in the state. Just compare Norman's 140 gallons per person per day to OKC's 180 gallons per day - with 200 gallons per person a day statewide.

You can learn more about our efforts on our Green Norman website by clicking here.

Thanks to citizens and community leaders pulling together, we have made great strides in making Norman a leaner and greener city!

Cindy and Jim

Sincerely,
